Ballet pictures from today with new Barre

I thought I would put up a few pictures from today's session. I built a portable barre from Home Depot (is there anything that photographers do not get from there? They should sell cameras and I could do all my shopping in one place). Anyway, if you need a ballet barre at the house to do some stretching it will set you back about $75 bucks. As a studio prop, it was well worth it.

Anyway, on to the pictures...

Megan and her mom came in to get some studio shots today. Here is a simple portrait to start out the session.

This is what Megan was doing when I came back downstairs from get a faster lens. The best shots always seem to be the ones where the dancer is unaware of the camera.

Adrienne, A Ballet Dancer

I am working on a better system to store files then the small pile of external hard drives. I currently copy or backup the hard drives at the studio to another small pile of slightly older drives that I take home. I also burn a DVD after each session. I finally decided to put my eggs in one basket, meaning I am going to store all the studio's files on a server. Technical stuff is that the server is a little older but seldom used Pentium 4 running Ubuntu with a SATA hard drive raid controller. Rather then use the RAID to combine hard drives, I created a super large 5 terabyte drive using a Linux tool called LVM. It seems to work well and I am copying some files right now. I'll skip the rest of the technical stuff for right now, but for now I have one place for everything. I still plan to backup the server's drive to external drives and keep a copy every week or so.

Anyway, on to the picture of the week...

Adrienne came home from D.C. for a few days and we managed to get in two photo sessions and a video ballet audition. She is a really talented dancer and is always a blast to shoot. I'll post more edits in the ballet gallery on the web site soon after we sort through the favorites.

A Pre-Show ad I hope to run at the Garland Theater

The pictures kind of go by very fast, but I hope this will capture a few prospective class of 2010 high school seniors!

Corsmith Automotive Website

I've been working on some websites lately between senior portrait orders and photo sessions. By far the simplest one to go live is corsmithautomotive.com.

I took the existing logo from their business card and built it from scratch. I approximated the Italian flag colors applied the brush stroke filter to get the streaks. I also made a favicon from the same file. I built the banner in Photoshop with a gradient overlay over an existing rainbow banner to give it sort of a flag feel. Kelly Corbin has been a long time coffee friend co-owns Corsmith with Carter Smith. They have a garage on Market street in the Fire Station next to the McDonalds just south of Buckeye. I highly recommend you take your Vintage Alfa Spider for a timing belt change or if you need some help finding a replacement gear knob.

Another web site in development is for Gestalt Studios. Debra is my neighbor and you have to walk through her store to get to my studio. We are working on some content as well as we are going to shoot some interiors to put in the portfolio area. This is just a rough draft, but check it out if you have some time.

Moving the blog to Wordpress

Update Nov 1st, 2012: I am back at Blogger to better integrate my blog and my website. A Rapidweaver plugin called Rapidblog sucks in my blogger page into my site so its better integrated and better seen by search engines. My wordpress site sort of sat outside of my main website and was never properly linked together.

I am going to try Wordpress for blog posting for a number of reasons. Mainly, I want to see how it works before I setup client's websites with the similar software. The commenting software on the old blog is broken and beyond repair. I'll leave it up until I can figure out how to import it.

I will work on the look and feel of the blog in the next couple of weeks.

Picture of the Week

Ali Vincent was in the studio the other day for a photo shoot for First Magazine. After it goes to the newsstands I will blog some of the behind the scenes images. Here are a couple of shots on the cyc wall (ok, white seamless) while I had it setup.
